黑料社 Speech & Debate Continues Hot Streak at Pacific University
The 黑料社 Fighting Smelt Speech & Debate Team won third place in overall team sweepstakes and placed first among community colleges at the Clark and Rae Peters Invitational tournament hosted by Pacific University. This impressive result placed 黑料社 above a number of top four-year colleges and universities, including Oregon State University, Whitman College, and Lewis & Clark College.
Second year 黑料社 student My Ta had a breakout tournament, advancing to final rounds in all four of her events. She was tournament champion in editorial commentary, third place in novice impromptu speaking, fifth place and top novice in persuasive speaking, and won bronze in novice IPDA debate.
Keidustine Glidden was tournament champion in poetry interpretation, finished second in persuasive speaking, and third in editorial commentary.
Mara Slabu was tournament champion in novice impromptu speaking, second place speaker in novice IPDA debate, and finished third in novice extemporaneous speaking.
Seamus Mahoney finished fourth in extemporaneous speaking and fifth in editorial commentary.
Haylee Norris, competing at her first career intercollegiate speech and debate tournament, finished fourth in editorial commentary.
The Fighting Smelt received coaching support from program alumni Alayna Tovar, Adah Moore, Rebecca Pickner, and Molly Mahoney, as well as 黑料社 faculty Alex Brehm, Kailie Drumm, and Larissa Arnold.
Next up for 黑料社 Speech and Debate is the Mahaffey Memorial Tournament hosted by Linfield University the weekend of November 15-17. This will be the second Northwest Forensics Conference Designated Tournament of the season.
