Career-connected learning is a series of skill-based programs that link education directly to credentials and career opportunities through structured, work-related experiences. It weaves together classroom learning with on-the-job learning so academic knowledge, technical expertise, and professional habits reinforce one another in meaningful, real-world contexts.
These experiences can appear as internships, recognized pre-apprenticeships, Registered Apprenticeships, practicum, field-based learning, and other work-based opportunities tied to a program of study. The goal is to ensure a meaningful, real-world experience that counts toward a degree or certificate while making stronger candidate in the job market.
Career-connected learning is usually described as a continuum with three stages: Explore, Prep, and Launch. As a college student, you may still participate across all three levels depending on your experience and how far along you are in your program.
Short activities like job fairs, worksite tours, and guest speakers help you see options
and connect your interests with real careers.
Deeper, hands-on learning such as CTE-aligned coursework, labs, and internships help
you test a specific pathway and build basic industry skills.
Paid and volunteer work experiences integrated with your coursework (practicum, apprenticeships,
and internships) lead to a credential or substantial progress toward a degree.
